THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT

Honouring our past and strengthening our future partnerships in Norway.

Soldiers from 2 R YORKS recently reinforced our strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the Norwegian Army. In February, soldiers visited His Majesty the King’s Guard (HMKG), observing their winter field exercise (EX YMER 1) and visiting The Royal Palace.

Then, on 28th May, we were in Narvik for the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Narvik. In 1940, the battle was fought over the vital port used to transport Swedish iron ore. Our antecedent regiment, the Green Howards, played a significant role in the recapture of the town. As custodians of their history, our Commanding Officer, RSM, and 14 soldiers proudly participated in a joint remembrance service, laying a wreath at the British war graves.

We are proud of this enduring bond and look forward to hosting HMKG in the UK this Autumn.
